Paragraph 10: The spirit of the fallen

Dakhanishi and his troop now walked in full daylight doing their evil task. The land seems empty and empty sandy spots remained on the place were powerful castles once stood. At nights ,in his tribe cave, the songs of victory were sung and the shaman predicted the dissapearance of the enemy before the end of the week. Dakhanishi was proud. He and his troop were responsible for destroying at least seven villages and even two towers from the great castle of count Thundax. However, this day he was send out to investigate the faith of 3 groups missing. These groups were send out to a strange building in the midst of a forest that seemed to be the last building left in possession of their enemy. Most probably these groups were celebrating their victory with some captured humans or some liquor. It was early in the evening when Dakhanishi and his troop reached the outer rim of the forest and it began to get dark already. However the carvers , although happy they could travel in broad daylight, were accustomed to this darkness and felt actually relieved by it. The building they sought must be easily found as previous troops left easy to spot signs that only fellow tribesmen could easily follow. Silent ,and with a strange confidence not typical of the cowardice nature of the carvers, the troop of Dakhanishi travelled deeper and deeper into the forest. Suddenly one of his fellow tribes man who scouted some 30 meters in advance of the troop came running towards him. “Master, dead all dead’. Dakhanishi quickly walked towards an open clearing and saw what his scout meant. In the middle of the clearing some 20 carver bodies lied dead on the ground. Dakhanishi immediately recognised his fellow tribesman and a uncontrolled panic almost forced him to flee. However he forced himself to stay and his troop quickly searched the bodies. No wounds were found on the bodies and the clay pots were empty indicating the success of the task that they were send out to do. When Dakhanishi looked up he only now saw the large building that stood some 50 meters away. The building was covered in darkness but seemed not to be touched by the workings of the used pots. For a moment Dakhanishi thought about abandoning his mission altogether but the fear of the Wanderer and the success of the past days made him decide otherwise. The group divided themselves as planned and each went to a different wall. Dakhanishi ,again having the most difficult task, silently and in the cover of darkness, crawled toward the main gate. He the waited to give the signal to his fellow tribesman to start their evil work. When all were in position Dakhanishi gave the signal and all opened their clay pots. Suddenly a great light shined and a befrightened Dakhanishi looked up. With his mouth and eyes widely opened he saw in horror a brightly shined transparent human knight appearing before him. The ghostly knight spoke “Evil creature, you will not succeed in destroying our fellow knights…we were vanquished in the flesh but still wake over our brethren brothers and sisters in spirit’. Only now Dakhanishi realised that the armour the ghostly knight wore was the armour of the hated secret knights of the enemy that killed so many of his brethren. Frozen Dakhanishi saw strange lights also coming from the position where his fellow tribesman were located. Dakhanishi looked at the knight again while frantically continuing to open the pot. Without any sound the ghostly knight pulled a sword and tilted the sword above his head. Dakhanishi in defence drew his own sword and tried to parry the blow. However the sword bypassed the sword of Dakhanishi and his armour and slew him without even making a wound. That evening the bodies of Dakhanishi and his troop lied broken in the middle of the clearing between the bodies of the unfortunates that tried to attack the library before.

Paragraph 11: The Refuge

A large crowd was assembled on the empty spot were less then a week ago the great Hall of the Republic was located. Now all evidence of this great structure was gone. On a little hill the nobles and the council looked down on their fellow Immortals and Albertus began to speak. “Friends, family. Again we are struck by great misfortune. However we seem always possible to achieve victory from the brink of defeat. Councillor Kitana is travelling to the west to visit a great sorcerer who can restore our buildings. However in the mean time we have been granted a temporary home in the most unlikely place namely the library. I started to build up the library to offer information to all who needed it. Also our noble council guard took refuge there and buried the bodies of their fallen comrades in a holy crypt. Last night we discovered that this last fact protected the building against the evil that struck all our other buildings. Therefore while still confident in finding a solution that will bring back our homes we can and will use the shelter of the library to protect us from weather and enemies alike.”. The assembled nobles nodded in agreement and a sigh of relief was heard coming from the crowd. “Well then, lets travel to the library and plan to defeat this evil curse” Dennizon spoke. And while the Council Guard helped to prepare the people for the journey to the library both Albertus and Dennizon looked to the horizon and thought about Kitana and her difficult mission.

Paragraph 12. Kitana’s quest

For days now Kitana rode through dense woods without seeing a soul. It was raining for days now and her clothes were soaked. Two weeks ago she started the journey to the west to search for great wisdom supposedly possessed by a wizard of legendary skill and status. She had not eaten for days and her body began to weaken. Cold , hunger and fatigue would not stop her as she strongely remembered the faces of the clanspeople she held so dear to her heart, the panic and desolation the citizens of the Republic, the seriousness of her fellow councillors and the uncharacteristic absense of laughter in the whole land. “I Must succeed’ she thought while shivering from the cold. She looked at a wound in her left leg inflicted by a carver who attacked her 5 days ago. She fought off the attackers back then but she had no time to take care of the wound properly.
The path she rode on was almost invisible as nature had almost reclaimed the road. In the past this forest was part of a great Kingdom. However this Kingdom fell as their queen died in her own castle as it burned to the ground in an horrible tragedy. Albertus ,two weeks ago, gave Kitana the only map left of this land. She could remember the pain she saw in his eyes as he gave the map to her. In the past Albertus must have been close to this queen, back in the the early days of the republic. The map had its use but for the most part it was outdated and unprecise. However clearly on it ,almost at the edge of the map, a white sorcerers tower was printed beyond a forest with only a single road to get there. And that road she was travelling on now. It was beginning to get dark and Kitana looked on the map to see if any buidings of villages perhaps were near to offer some protection for the night. In the past two weeks she often found ruins of villages were she toke shelter however tonight she would not be that lucky.
